CCM and Reebok’s Strategy

CCM Hockey

CCM Hockey

In today’s world, when most people think about hockey equipment, they think Reebok. I think I started playing hockey in 1995 or 1994. Even though us roller hockey players saw Reebok skates and started to see other Reebok gear, like sticks and gloves show up, nobody really purchased it. I had stopped playing inline hockey a few years later. Reebok hockey equipment was everywhere. Reebok was also the official equipment provider to the National Hockey League.
There were a few big brands that I knew about and so did every other inline hockey player. These brands were CCM, Jofa, and Bauer. CCM was founded in 1899 after the collapse of the bicycle market. It stands for Canada Cycle & Motor Co. Ltd. By 1905, with saturation in the bicycle market, CCM also began producing hockey skates and subsequently began manufacturing other hockey gear. It manufactures a wide range of ice hockey equipment and its major rival is Bauer Hockey. CCM acquired other hockey equipment makers (such as Koho and Jofa) and became known as The Hockey Company. CCM is one of the official licensees, sponsors, and on-ice suppliers of ice hockey equipment for the National Hockey League until 2014. In 2004, Reebok purchased CCM, Koho and Jofa. After awhile, they phased out Jofa and kept the CCM and Reebok

Hockey Speed Training Drills

hockey drills

Speed training drills are one of the most important things that players can focus on when trying to maximize their on ice performance.

First of all, the single most important thing any player needs to realize when thinking about speed is that with skating, tiny imperfections in your form can cause big losses in your speed. Speed throws goalies off.

Power start drill

This hockey skating drill will teach skaters how to have fast powerful starts

4-minute skating drill

First, you must divide all players in groups of 3 players each. Each player will skate from the blue line to the middle red line and back again twice with full speed.

4 stop drill

Players form a line at one end of the rink. After all four marks are hit, player one skates back in line behind the rest as player 2 takes off and so on. Starting at one end of the rink, Player 1 skates full speed to the blue line, then pivots and skates backwards to the second blue line, pivots again and skates to the other red line and goes behind the net, pivots again, skates backwards until the second blue line, pivots again to reach the end of the rink where he started.

Hockey in American Private Schools

Hockey School

Hockey School

Most Canadians are absolutely crazy about their national sport. They begin playing at a very young age. Hockey rinks can be found in just about every hamlet. The Canadian climate tends to foster the sport with long, rather cold winters. Most private schools in Canada offer hockey at the intramural and varsity level.

But what about south of the border? The expansion of the National Hockey League into southern and western states has created a whole new following. Thousands of young men suddenly want to be professional hockey players. They love the fast pace and excitement of Canada’s national sport. So, if your son or daughter (yes, many coed and girls schools mount girls’ hockey teams) is clamoring to go to a ‘hockey’ school, then, you can’t do much better than some of the schools on the list below. These fine American private schools enjoy a great reputation for excellent hockey teams as well as superb academics. Who knows! Maybe he will later join a minor hockey team and then end up on NHL team.

Coaching Youth Hockey

Regardless of the reason, your age or experience of coaching major and minor hockey league at the sport, coaching can be an overwhelming thought to even the most enthusiastic volunteer. Relax, follow a few basic rules of engagement, use common sense, and you’ll be just fine.

Include the guidelines you will set forth for your players and their parents. In other words, establish some basic team rules. Prepare yourself in advance of your first parents meeting. The most important advice anyone could give a new coach is to always be honest with your players.

You will no doubt be telling your players that practice makes perfect. You must subscribe to this theory yourself!

Never play favorites. If one of your players is your son, nephew or little brother, avoid giving that team member special attention or showing favoritism at the rink.

Prepare! As a Coach, you are constantly responsible for correcting your players and showing them the right way. Constantly give your players something to live up to. You’ll be far more effective if you do.

Five Factors That Determine NHL Playoff Schedule

Hockey Schedule

Hockey Schedule

Five factors determine the National Hockey League (NHL) playoff schedule: regular season record, outcome of each playoff round, geographic location, venue availability, and television requests.

Regular Season Record

The NHL consists of thirty teams that are divided into two conferences. Each of the three division winners are guaranteed playoff spots. Playoff positions are determined first by the division winners. The division winner with the third most point receives the third playoff seed. The fourth through eight teams in the conference are seeded by total points. The number one seed (division winner with the most points) faces the number eight seed. Seed 3 plays seed 6 and seed 4 is scheduled to play seed 5.

Outcome of each playoff round

If seeds 2, 4, 6 and 8 move into the second round, then seed 2 plays seed 8 and seeds 4 and 6 play in the other series.

Geographic location

The NHL prefers for each series to play games on every other day. Because of travel issues, some series may skip a day to allow teams to recuperate from traveling long distances.

You can’t underestimate the importance of skates. Look for a stiff boot to give your player ultimate power transfer. Go with carbon-reinforced outsoles and heat-moulded or memory foam.

WHAT’S THEIR GAME?

It’s essential to know what type of player your son or daughter is in hockey minor in order to determine the skates they need.

SKATE COMPONENTS

For most players, the boot is the most important part of the skate. On top of fit, you need protection, comfort, durability and support.

Keep your feet dry

The big technology story in skate liners is moisture management. Durability for longer play

Ankle support

Pro tip: Hardcore players should go with a stiff boot while active players should look for a moderately stiff boot. Recreational players should opt for pure comfort. Heavier players generally benefit from a stiffer boot.

Some high end skates have a carbon or graphite reinforced outsole. It gives the skate its lightweight properties and maximum energy transfer that hardcore players thrive on. Other skates have outsoles with partial carbon or plastic reinforced outsoles.

The Fights in Ice Hockey

Hockey Fights

Hockey Fights

Hockey fights are often misunderstood, but they are an accepted part of the game. The practice of fighting in hockey is permitted by many of the world’s professional men’s leagues, including the National Hockey League. Most of the hockey lovers love to watch fights at hockey games, including the hockey minor. Hockey players fight each other to mark their territory to show ownership of the game. Despite the terrible consequences of the hockey fights, most of the hockey game lovers consider fighting skill as a measure of all-around hockey talent.

However, if you look at it from a hockey fan’s point of view it is ice hockey fights that make hockey and the NHL what it is. Fights are and will always be a big part of the National Hockey League.

A guess is that athletes of many other sports would never have put up with the level of physical contact you face in ice hockey. Although hockey fights are brutal and uncoordinated, they play a legitimate role in keeping certain players’ behavior in line.  Despite the terrible consequences of the hockey fights, most of the hockey game lovers consider fighting skill as a measure of all-around hockey talent.

Roller Skates and Roller Hockey

Roller Hockey

Roller Hockey

Roller skates have always been recommended to fitness freaks. Roller skates have two basic designs: quad roller skates and inline skates or blades.

Roller skating has evolved from a pastime to a sport activity due to its popularity. Roller skating is also recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA) as an aerobic fitness sport. Roller skating is a fun and effective way of participating in fitness activities.

Roller skates have been involved in many sports including roller hockey.

Roller Hockey: Roller hockey can be played using quad skates or inline skates. Inline skating: Inline skating is an aggressive sport, which is basically performed on the streets, parks and sidewalks. .

Roller hockey or inline hockey is played on roller or inline skates, with wheels placed in groups of 3 or 4 in a single line. This game is played with either a puck, or a ball. Goal nets are essentially just steel frames with nylon nets, and they can be dismantled for storage. The gear used by roller hockey players is generally loose-fitting sport shirts, pants, and socks. Goalies need more protection, and it should be made sure that his or her chest, back, and throat are protected.

International Hockey Tournaments

Running a hockey tournament can be a stressful ordeal to undertake, but it can also be quite a rewarding endeavor as well. In the initial rounds of the tournament, teams need to play each team within their own pod (division). If teams are traveling from a great distance to compete in your tournament, then they need to have some grace periods of time before they begin play on the first day of the tournament. Local teams can play the earlier scheduled games.

During the playoff rounds of the tournament, teams should then cross over and play teams from opposing pods, and, for example if there are two pods and the top two teams have advanced, then the first place team from one pod plays the second place team from the other pod, and vice versa.

The International Hockey Federation enthralls its audiences by holding numerous amounts of tournaments at the international level. The tournaments allow some of the best field hockey teams in the world to participate and put on a show for the ages in various areas of the world. Around 6 of the world’s most watched international hockey tournaments include the following:

NHL’s Goalies

The job of the goalie in ice hockey is pretty simple: stop the puck from going in the net. Besides being able to stop the puck, it’s also important for a goalie to have strong puck-handling skills so they move the puck quickly to their teammates.
Hockey Goalies – Changing Gears
When hockey mens was first played in the 1870s, goalies didn’t wear much more than shin pads for protection. The NHL has now placed new restrictions on goalie gear by limiting the size of the pads, gloves and blockers that a goalie can wear.
