ESPN retains some input on the direction and look of TSN, including redesigning TSN’s logo to look somewhat like its own. TSN renewed its national cable rights with expanded Canadian team coverage.

TSN bills itself as the ‘home for Hockey’ in Canada. TSN holds the national rights to broadcast the NHL in Canada except for Saturday nights (those rights belong to CBC for their Hockey Night in Canada programme). On Wednesday nights, they enjoy “exclusive” rights, meaning no regional NHL broadcast in Canada may compete with TSN’s. Their broadcasts on this night are branded Wednesday Night Hockey. Their entire NHL package is branded the NHL on TSN.

Hockey Canada and TSN are in the middle of a 7-year contract that gives TSN the rights to broadcast the IIHF World Junior Championships, Men’s and Women’s World Hockey Championship, Men’s Under-18 World Championships, Allan Cup, Royal Bank Cup, Spengler Cup, Telus Cup and ESSO Women’s Nationals.

In the NWHL playoffs, teams played a best-of-three series to determine the Eastern and Central Division champions, who face off for the Clarkson Cup. Teams from the Eastern and Central Divisions did not play against the Western Division teams at all in the regular season or postseason, although there were plans to have all three divisions compete in the playoffs before the league hockey folded.

It has to be said, though, that beginnings for Czech ice hockey were somewhat less auspicious. History tells us that hockey in Bohemia at the beginning of the 20th century was a hugely different sport. Different from the game we have come to know, even different from the game played in Canada then.

In 1920 the first world championship was held and for the first time European teams were able to measure their strength against Canada. The Czech team, representing newly-emerged Czechoslovakia, was defeated 15:0. Only two teams – the Czechs and the Swedes – played a single match for silver and gold. Czechs – Austria, Stvanice stadium 1933 1931 was another milestone for the Czechs as Czech Radio broadcast from a game for the very first time. For the first time Czech hockey was freed from the shackles of changing weather. Modern times had arrived. World championships were held at the stadium four times: in 1933, ‘38, ‘47, and ‘59. It was in ‘47 the Czechs won.

Adjusted summary of article by Jerry Goff

The history of the NHL jersey dates back almost 100 years. NHL fans buy NHL gear including hockey jerseys and wear them to games and at home to show their support for their local team. The Toronto Arenas were the only team to sport a solid blue jersey with white trim.

The NHL jerseys associated with this team was a solid brown color with gold trim. Stars highlighted the NHL jerseys of the New York Americans red, white and blue color scheme.

It was in 1955 that the Bruins became the first team to introduce the color gold in their NHL jerseys.

In 1951, the NHL mandated white jerseys at home getting the Rangers to create a new uniform. Names first appeared on the back of jerseys in 1971, but only home teams wore them. However, by 1978, all teams were wearing names on the backs of the jerseys. The team put white letters on the white jerseys and blue letters on the blue jerseys, because the team’s owner, Howard Ballard, feared he would lose revenue from game programs if fans knew the names of players.
