Miracle on Ice 2 in 2010 Winter Olympics

2010 winter olympicsWhen United States’ ice hockey team beat Canada’s ice hockey team 5 to 3 in this 2010 Winter Olympic Vancouver preliminary round, people referred it as “Miracle on Ice 2”. Thirty years before this, the legend of “Miracle on Ice” the first was born in 1980 Winter Olympics final, when United States’ ice hockey team beat Soviet Union’s team 4 to 3, resulting in the winning of the gold medal by US and silver by The Soviet Union.

On paper, US team definitely had almost no chance to win. Analyst like Barry Melrose predicted that even though it would be a hard fight, the Canadian team would win 5 to 3 against US team. The fact was, Canada team had Martin Brodeur, the goalie who holds the record for most victories ever and Sidney Crosby who was on fire. In the last four minutes, Canada attacked furiously and managed 19 shots to US goal. Ryan Miller, US’ team’s goalie, was practically a hero since he successfully blocked totally 42 shots during the game from the team which has one of NHL’s best goalies in its history. With several films made based on the first “Miracle on Ice” back in 1980, will this “Miracle on Ice 2” have its way to the big screen?

While hockey camps give you the chance to improve your shooting skills and hit more hockey goals over a few short weeks, a coach does more than help you polish your game; they’re often your mentor. Ace soccer player David Beckham has a long-running relationship with his manager Alex Ferguson. Practice, practice, and practice some more! What makes a good hockey player a great athlete is not discipline; it’s practiced discipline.

How Should Parents Support Their Child in Junior Hockey

Adjusted summary of articles by M. R. Overbury and Robert Probert

Ice hockey is very unique when you compare it to most other sports. While many youth hockey players and parents have dreams of their child going off to play an elite level of hockey such as juniors, college and eventually professional hockey.

Actually it is very debatable whether or not having a hockey player leave home in their early teen years is beneficial for that childs’ development as a hockey player and as a person.

In most cases I am of the opinion that it really is not a good idea for your child to leave home to go play hockey elsewhere before they are out of high school. If however, your child plays hockey at a very high level and has enough skill to play in the top junior hockey leagues in North America while still being able to produce and be an elite player at that level, it might be a good idea to let your child leave home in order to further develop their hockey skills at a high level hockey school before graduating from high school.

The Real Hockey Fans

Just name the player and his image will come to mind in their team uniform. This was the old six team NHL. The Chicago Black Hawks, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Montreal Canadiens. I became a Toronto fan. All the teams had proud and long traditions.

My favorite player was Frank Mahovlich. Mahovlich won six Stanley Cups. In 1974 the Philadelphia Flyers became the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup. Today hockey has 30 teams. I swear the NHL leadership is listening to soccer moms instead of hockey moms. Let the Fans begin the cheers. If your fans can’t generate their own team cheers, then send them to a soccer game. Check out a Sabres-Leafs, Oilers-Flames, or Rangers-Islanders game. Let’s get the greatest game back where it belongs – to the real hockey fans. See also hockey fights.

Less extreme NHL fans can still show team spirit by decorating their home with a favorite team’s colors or logo. Image Bedroom has hockey bedding and home décor from each of the NHL’s 30 teams. Even without taking it as far as Dean McCord’s basement, hockey fans can find everything they need to turn a room into their own hockey shrine online at sites like Image Bedding, even shower curtains and bed sheets.

The National Hockey League and Its Popularity

The National Hockey League was established in 1917 and since then there have been four major eras of the NHL; the Founding, the Original Six, the Expansion Era and the Modern Era.

The tournament was founded when its predecessor, the National Hockey Association was disbanded. The six teams that remained adopted a new moniker and the second era of the NHL began.

In 1967, with the world economy and political climate more stable than in decades prior, six additional expansion teams joined the National Hockey League, bringing the team total up to twelve and ushering in an era for the NHL known as the Expansion Era.

The Expansion Era of the NHL lasted from the beginning of season 1967 until the end of the season in 1992. The fourth era of the NHL is the Modern Era. The Canada Cup was transformed into World Cup Hockey in 1996, NHL players first started playing in the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan in 1998. The NHL has grown from twenty two teams to the thirty teams playing currently.
