MTSU Ice Hockey

It is a common misconception that the word “hockey” is synonymous to ice hockey. There are actually different types of hockey, and playing it on the ice is just one of them. Another form of hockey is called inline hockey or roller hockey. This hockey sport combines inline skating and ice hockey in one game.

Roller hockey, also known as inline hockey, is played on roller or inline skates with wheels, which are placed in sets of three or four in a single line.

Roller hockey is played with either a puck or a ball. Roller hockey players wear loose jerseys, pants and socks. Hockey gloves—or at least wrist guards—should be worn. Roller hockey is a street game with as many safety concerns as regulation hockey.

Safety gear is also the same as with ice hockey. Each player is required to wear helmets, shin guards, hockey shoulder pads, and elbow pads, among other things.

Goalies, of course, need more protection. In addition to all the protective gear mentioned above, a goalie must also be equipped with chest, back and throat protectors, extra-padded leg pads, mask cages and more.

Goal nets are supported by steel frames with nylon nets and can be dismantled for storage. They are approximately the same as those used for ice hockey.
