The National Hockey League was established in 1917 and since then there have been four major eras of the NHL; the Founding, the Original Six, the Expansion Era and the Modern Era.

Ice hockey tournaments have been staged at the Olympic Games since 1920. The men’s tournament was introduced at the 1920 Summer Olympics and was transferred permanently to the Winter Olympic Games programme in 1924. The women’s tournament was first held at the 1998 Winter Olympics.

The Olympic Games were originally intended for amateur athletes, and until 1998, the players of the National Hockey League (NHL) and other men’s professional leagues were not allowed to compete. The games of the tournament follow the rules of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), which differ slightly from the rules used in the NHL.

In the men’s tournament, Canada was the most successful team of the first three decades, winning six of seven gold medals. When the 2004-2005 season got canceled for the first time in NHL hockey history, many people thought that this would be the end for hockey in North America. There are thirty teams that make up the NHL. The game of hockey was founded in Canada; the people of Canada love the game. Why are there teams found in the hot desert climates of the United States?

After the NHL’s lockout in 2004, many forgot about the game of hockey. Fans in Canada were excited to have hockey back. Slowly, hockey has begun to find more fans support throughout the United States. Having more teams in Canada would be a great addition to the NHL. It is a tough call to move a professional ice hockey team to the southwest.

Hockey helmet is the most important gear that every player should wear before entering the field to protect themselves from injury. National hockey league players are advised to change their helmets once every seven years as that is all the wear and tear a hockey helmet can stand. The hockey helmet has become so popular today that there are miniature helmets being created as part of the sports collectibles in many stores. There are also companies that make hockey helmets for fun purpose for children to enjoy while playing the game in their homes. Sometimes people like to buy these helmets and sport them at home as a curio piece. Or those who enjoy collecting sports memorabilia have a interest in these helmets amongst other sports gear. Generally speaking, they are attached to a high school or college football player’s helmet. Most famous cricket players have been using head coverings for years.

You probably already new this, but 1917 was the year when the first historical game of the National Hockey League was played.

The first professional ice hockey league was formed in 1904, in Michigan. An ice hockey stick is little less curved than a routine hockey stick, and may be made of wood or a modern composite material.
